Mom and Me on 365 Project

Here we are on Sunday after the shower my mom helped her friend Susie throw for Jenna (Susie’s future daughter-in-law). If you click the photo you’ll be taken over to my new project for the year: the 365 Project. A few friends and family members are also doing this with me. It’ll be a very fun way to document the year, one photo at a time!

A Performance

by Nicole on January 8, 2010

in funny, gianna

It’s hard to get Gigi to perform on camera. She’s usually more concerned with “seeing it” than letting me record her. Today I was able to convince her (pretty easily, actually) to bring you some entertainment.

This week we have been potty training!! It’s been going pretty well. She’s been basically diaper free during her awake times since Tuesday afternoon. We’ve been using diapers still at naptime, nighttime and when we went to Bible study. But otherwise she has done awesome all week, errands and all, with only a handful of accidents. Because of that, we’ve been washing hands a lot this week. When we wash hands with Gigi, we always sing the ABCs (to ensure long-enough washing, and to teach her letters). This was the first week she actually started singing them all by herself! Probably due to repetition!

The way I convinced her to sing for the camera was to ask her if she wanted to show her cousins how she could sing her ABCs for them. She loved that idea. Note that she’s not actually much of a singer (yet) but hopefully she’ll develop an ability to carry a tune a little later with more practice. :)

As a bonus, she was gracious enough to “read” her favorite book to you all as well.

We’ve officially turned in everything paper-related for our adoption! Our portfolios were hand-delivered to the agency (thanks A&A!) and now we are ready to be shown to birthmothers with whom we match.

Thanks for your continued prayers. Now we wait.

And I Quote…

by Nicole on December 20, 2009

in funny, gianna

On the way home from Granny & Granpa’s, after spending the night with them after the extended Bennett family Christmas party…

Gigi: “Look, that’s like Granpa’s truck!”*

Me: “And we saw the real “Granpa’s truck” this weekend, too.”

Gigi: “And we saw the real Granny, too!”

*She has an uncanny ability to correctly identify cars as looking like someone she know’s car (correct color, too). Popular ones she recognizes are : “Yaya’s car” (white Highlander), “Auntie Rena’s car” (gray Pilot), “Papa’s car/truck” (white Expedition/Chevy truck), “Grandpa’s truck” (white Ford truck), “Unc A’s car” (maroon Malibu), “Our car” (white Sequoia).

November Photos

by Nicole on December 10, 2009

in friends, news

Here’s a look at November (Thanksgiving to come in another post).

The biggest event was the launch party for the company David works for, Elliptigo. It was a really fun party, complete with amazing food, beer and coffee, and test rides. My parents, David’s mom, and friends Rena & Risa all came to celebrate.

We also went out to a SDSU football game with our friends and TCU-almuni members, the McNaughtons. Gigi is buddies with their little girl and we have a lot of fun with them. David and Ryan are two peas in a pod when it comes to passion for sports. Now Gigi loves to cheer “Go Frogs!” while trying to make the little frog hand signal, and wave her purple and white pom-pom. Maybe we have a future TCU attendee on our hands?

We had a new family move into our neighborhood and now have 3 2-year olds on the block– Gigi loves her little neighbor friends. We also found out that one of our neighbors is the sister of a long-time family friend/firefighter. Small world!

Here’s a little slideshow of the month’s photos… (if in a reader/email, click over to blog to view)

We’re adopting! Most of you probably already heard this, especially if you read my other blog, Gidget Goes Home.

If you haven’t yet, head over to our adoption page to read about our journey and keep up on the latest. I’ll be posting over there on the process, my thoughts, etc, but don’t worry, I’ll post any big news over here. :)

We’d love it if you would pray with/for us as we await the next member of our family!!

October was a busy month for us! Here are a couple of photo slideshows to showcase the month. (Make sure you click over if you’re in a reader or your email inbox).

We had a great time at the pumpkin patch early in the month and then a fun Halloween party with our awesome friends.

Here’s the rest of the October photos, featuring a couple of picnic dinners at the beach, the anual pancake breakfast at Papa’s fire station, a fun birthday party, and some other random things.

Happy Birthday, David!

by Nicole on October 27, 2009

in family, friends, news

So we’re officially the same age for the next four months as David finally turned 28! We had fun celebrating him with some of his favorite things. We started the day with a gift of Mountain Dew and then breakfast at the Original Pancake House… YUM.

In the afternoon we had a little picnic dinner at Moonlight Beach with some friends– old and new. It was super fun, despite the thick fog.

After church the next day we went bowling with the family– both sets of parents and Alex and Angelina, too.

Have you ever seen anything as cute as toddler bowling shoes?!

Here’s a slideshow of the events.

September Recap

by Nicole on October 1, 2009

in funny, gianna, milestones

So here I am in our new place- we’ve been here almost a month now- and I just love it! It’s small and cozy and in a great location. We’ve got amazing neighbors with a daughter Gigi’s age and a friendly doggie, too! We’ve had a great month with lots of local fun, including Gigi’s first pony ride at the Greek Festival and really enjoying our new place.

This month I also started attending a Bible study with a group of ladies from my church. It’s called Community Bible Study and we meet at a church in Carlsbad. The neat thing is that the program (CBS) is not affiliated with any particular church and we have women from 44 local churches in attendance. CBS has an amazing children’s program– it’s basically like a preschool class for Gigi once a week. She’s loving learning Bible verses and playing with her friends.

This week there was a luncheon for the classes so Gigi had to have a packed lunch for the first time! She was pretty excited about it. I had to capture this milestone and I think she looks so grown up (and funny) in these photos.
